Artificial Intelligence for Female in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) (AI4FS)

AI4FS aims at establishing a hub for females in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nigeria in relation to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4, 5 and 10 in hub-spoke universities collaboration model. The project will also be addressing the skills gaps and barriers to industries associated with female gender in STEM related fields. Building on the existing working relationship with UK partnering institution, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester; spoke universities and industry partners, Summit University, Offa through the Innovation and Advanced Science Research Group (IASRG) would be organizing training, workshops, industry immersion, academic immersion and internship opportunity in providing AI knowledge and skills to the underserved females in Nigeria technology and science related fields.

Objectives
  • Developing female centred AI and data engineering laboratories for extending AI research capabilities for females.
  • Seconding 10 female faculty members to the industry, 10 females industrialists to the partnering universities.
  • Providing skills development programme for 100 female students and at the same time provide access to industrial experience.
  • Jointly conducting applied training with industrial partners for 50 female undergraduate students and 3 postgraduate female students in addition to provision of entrepreneurial training.
  • Sponsoring research bench work visit opportunities for 2 female post graduate students at UK partner university
  • Organizing four dissemination workshops anchored by the partnering universities.
  • Setting up two startup companies for translating AI research work in the HSU and with capability of providing employment for over 30 females students.
